The Israeli military said Saturday that Capt. Shahar Gamla, 23, and Sgt. Ohad Yaari, 21, were killed in southern Lebanon.
Gamla, from Natur in the Golan Heights, died of his wounds after being hit on Thursday by an explosive drone. Gamla served as deputy commander of a platoon in the Egoz Unit. He is survived by his parents, Yishay and Lea, and his siblings, Rotem and Nitzan.
The council head, Uri Kallner, eulogized him: "Shahar grew up in a rooted, values-driven family from the Golan Heights, whose contribution to the community, settlement, and the state is a way of life. His roots were deeply planted in the soil of the Golan, which he loved so much."
Yaari, from Rehovot, was killed by accidental discharge of a weapon. He served as a combat soldier in the Givati Brigade. He is survived by his parents, Naama and David, and his three brothers, Moshe, Amitai, and Dvir.
Rehovot Mayor Matan Dil, eulogized him: "The heart refuses to believe, and there are no words that can express the depth of the pain and the magnitude of the loss," he wrote, urging residents to pay their final respects along the road leading to the cemetery.
The IDF said the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the circumstances of the incident.
With their deaths, the number of soldiers killed since the start of the current fighting in the north has risen to 30. In addition, four civilians have also been killed.
On Thursday, Captain Eitan Shmuel Lemberg, 21, was killed in southern Lebanon by an anti-tank missile. Lemberg served as a commander in the Armored Corps. Initial investigations indicate that a Hezbollah militant fired at the tank in which Lemberg was operating during an IDF operation north of the Litani River.
On Monday, Captain Ori Yosef Silvester, 30, from the settlement of Beit Aryeh, was killed by a drone strike in southern Lebanon. Silvester served as a military doctor in the Givati Brigade. Two officers and a soldier were seriously wounded in the explosion and another soldier was moderately wounded.
In another incident that occurred a few hours earlier, Sergeant Adam Tzarfati, who was 20 years old from Rosh Ha-Ayin, was killed by a drone strike.
